The majority of home and all condo communities built in the last 20 years will have some form of property owners association. The monthly or quarterly fees required to maintain the common areas and/or building exterior and landscaping can vary greatly between communities. Virtually all associations are non-profit, so fees vary with amenities, inclusions and maintenance requirements.
Typical HOA Restrictions:
- No Boats or Trailers
- No Trucks or Commercial Vehicles
- Pet Restrictions - Number, Weight & Breed
- Exterior Alterations
- Landscape Requirements
- No Home Based Business
If you don't want to pay for amenities you won't use or don't want the restrictions imposed by an association, an older home may be your best option. Condos must have an association since they have shared amenities & grounds.
